Hedgelaying and bird watching events in the East Riding this week
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s countryside access team has arranged two events this week as part of its 2018 programme.
Hedgelaying Conservation at Danes Dyke Local Nature Reserve on Saturday 27th January will be a chance to learn new skills and practice the old art of hedgelaying. Participants will learn how to lay a hedge and at the same time recreate an excellent habitat for wildlife on this coastal reserve for years to come.
Booking is essential for the event, which runs from 10 am to 3pm 27 January (though people can stay as long as they wish between those times). The event is free and is suitable for adults; young people aged 16-18 can attend if accompanied by an adult.
Big Garden Birdwatch on Sunday 28 January will be at Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve. Part of the national event organised by the RSPB, this will be a chance to help count the finches, tits and robins at the bird feeding station, to help understand how well the different species are doing this year. Visitors can feed the birds and make a bird feeder to take home. Beginners are welcome.
The event runs from 10am to 1pm, and participants can drop in at any time. The event is free, but booking is essential.
