Transforming the world to sustainability – Tour Drax Power Station
On Thursday 21st June from 6pm to 8pm you can visit one of the most iconic features of our region.
Drax Group plc is playing a vital role in helping change the way energy is generated, supplied and used as the UK moves to a low carbon future.
They are responsible for generating 7% of the UK’s electricity. Having successfully upgraded the UK’s biggest power station through innovative engineering, they are now a predominantly biomass-fuelled generator. 70% of the electricity they produce – enough to power Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool – is now made using compressed wood pellets rather than coal.
The visit will include a tour of the site with the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like! The focus will be on the environmental agenda for Drax, with a focus on carbon. If you have a particular area of interest, just email your queries and team will be prepared to address your thoughts on the day.
Please note: All safety equipment will be provided, but please ensure you wear flat shoes for the visit to ensure your safety.
