Volunteer for the Tour de Yorkshire in Howden Thursday 3rd May

The Tour de Yorkshire goes through Howden this Thursday 3rd May and you’re invited to be part of the winning team in Howden!

Given the volume of people visiting the town on  Vintage Day last Saturday, more helpers are going to be needed throughout the build up to the race and throughout the day.

The women’s race goes through at approximately 10.44am, followed by the sponsors’ caravan at 2.50pm and finally the men’s race at 4.50pm. It’s very difficult to estimate how many visitors to expect but judging by the numbers on Saturday and Pocklington’s experience last year, Howden is anticipating the day starting off slowly and then things getting gradually busier in to the early afternoon and once the schools close early.

Help is needed as below:

1. Howden Shire Hall café – open 10am – 5pm.  Duties involve serving refreshments, clearing tables and washing up.  The anticipated busiest time is from 11am – 2.30pm, then again 3pm – 5pm

2. Support with staffing the health bus and Smoothie bike (in the Market Place)

3. General car park marshalling (taking payment for parking and giving out free programmes)

4. Baking – The Shire Hall café sold out on Saturday so are greatly in need of more donations of cakes!

If you have an hour or two to spare at any point during the day, Howden would very much appreciate your help. Email Vic and let her know when you can come and what you’d prefer to do.  Her email address is: vic@howdenshirehall.co.uk

Large numbers of visitors will be arriving in the town, and whilst the race may come through Howden in a matter of minutes, the community spirit and legacy it generates will last for much longer.
