Community groups and local organisations in the Goole and surrounding area are benefitting from the latest funding round of awards made by Goole Fields Wind Farms Community Fund.

The fund receives an annual donation from Innogy Renewables UK Ltd (innogy) of nearly £250,000 and is administered by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

It aims to support a range of local community projects from improving community amenities and sports facilities, to enhancing community services and activities.

The independent fund panel, made up of local volunteers, meets quarterly to consider applications that can be submitted by applicants throughout the year.

The latest quarterly round saw the fund panel award a record £111,000 to five very varied projects, including funding for early years provision in a rural area, the development of a major football resource in Snaith, and a rural village hall refurbishment project.

One grant, to the value of £34,000, was awarded to the Green Team based in Goole.

The Green Team are embarking on a project to continue the development of the West Park Café and garden centre site within West Park, Goole and also their charity gardening service.

David Gibbins, CEO of the Green Team, said:

“We are very grateful for the support of the Goole Fields Wind Farms Community Fund as it will, with other funding secured, enable us to extend the garden centre, add a new training room and an additional vehicle, and relocate our office facility. Doing this will enable all the Green Team’s services, both commercial and charity, to be operated from one location.

“Not only will this create a focal point within the park but it will enable the Green Team to offer even more and varied training opportunities (gardening, catering, customer service and employability) and widen our ability to work with our partner organisations to assist more people to achieve their potentials and goals.”

Katy Woodington, community investment officer at innogy said:

“We are delighted to see these funds going to a wide range of exciting community-led projects and look forward to supporting fantastic local community projects for many years to come.”

The fund is open to receive applications all year round, and the panel meet four times a year to make funding decisions. The next decision-making meeting will be in September when the panel will consider applications received to the end of August.
