Love Your High Street

Love Your High Street

Love Your High Street is an initiative with funding to support ideas from local businesses to help revive principal towns and bring people back to the local high street. Whether it’s tidying up a shopfront, launching a business with a difference, or an event to attract more visitors.

Online shopping might mean that buying goods can be done from home but high streets are at the heart of our communities. East Riding of Yorkshire Council want to support ideas from businesses that will help to revitalise, and perhaps repurpose high street spaces.

Advisers can help local businesses to apply for funding that might bring the right ideas to reality.

High street-based businesses, those looking to start up a sustainable new business in the high street or locate an existing business to high street premises can apply. Projects that add value or improve the existing offer to help increase footfall, or bring something new into the high street.

Property owners can also apply, not for general maintenance but those seeking to significantly improve premises frontages, converting upper storey rooms into usable living spaces, bringing eye-sore sites back into use, or changing the use of an existing shop to a community benefit.

Established organisers with a track record of delivery that have an idea to bring a new event that will increase interest and footfall within the town, or a new event organiser with a robust plan and the capacity to deliver a new event can also apply.

Business groups who are collaborating to make a difference are also eligible. This might be something physical, or just a great idea which creates a stronger high street community.

Grants will be awarded to projects that encourage people to come back to East Riding high streets time after time. It isn’t just a place to buy things, but a place to get together and share an experience.  East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s business team will be on hand to support you as you turn your ideas into reality.

The funds can be used in the 13 principal towns in the East Riding:

  • Beverley
  • Bridlington Old Town and town centre
  • Cottingham
  • Driffield
  • Elloughton-cum-Brough
  • Goole
  • Hedon
  • Hessle
  • Hornsea
  • Howden
  • Market Weighton
  • Pocklington
  • Withernsea

The aim of the funding is to bring a sustainable increase in footfall to the high streets.  For more information visit https://www.loveyourhighstreet.co.uk/
