Aire & Calder Trail Open
A new canal-side route dedicated to walkers and cyclists has been officially opened by Councillor Pat Smith, Chair of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council following a seven week construction.
The Aire and Calder Navigation Towpath Trail runs between Goole and Rawcliffe Bridge. The idea for the pathway was initially suggested by Rory Kershaw and Ben Lapish, two teenagers who expressed difficulties cycling between both locations. Former East Riding Councillor John Barratt was very keen to support the project from its very early days.
The existing pathway has been widened by over two metres to provide a work, leisure and recreation route for people to utilise and enjoy. The project was part funded by the European Agricultural Fund which provided £210,000 to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to complete the project.
